Stop Draggin' My Heart Around - Stevie Nicks

Written by Tom Petty and Mike Campbell for the Heartbreakers, this song was recorded by Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty (and the Heartbreakers) and released as the first single from Nicks’ debut solo album, Bella Donna (1981).

Having recently watched the two-part doccie on Tom Petty which featured amazing footage of him with Stevie Nicks (keen to join the Heartbreakers and get away from Fleetwood Mac), this song jumped out as a good debut for Sarah on lead vocals.

We were keen not to replicate the wonderful Nicks/Petty recording and performances, so kicked off on acoustics before winding things up with drums, etc. It would have been nice to have some Hammond on this, but circumstances intervened.

The acerbic lyrics gave Stevie a great opportunity of taking a stab at Lindsay Buckingham, we think! Not sure who is in Sarah’s sights on this? There are 6 and 12 string acoustics here plus slide, strat, tele, bass and vocals.
