Written by the legendary Van Morrison and featured on the album, Moondance (1970).

The lyrics use homophones to create alternate meanings, ‘I was born before the wind’ and ‘I was born (borne) before the wind’, and ‘Also younger than the sun (son)’, ‘Ere the bonny boat was won (one).

Although there are so many outstanding Van songs, this one is truly an evergreen. We love Van because of his organic, no-tech approach to recording (which circumstance dictates for us too!).

Sarah and Reini had previously played this song with local band, ‘Felix and the Nevers’. On the YouTube live recording, Reini is playing his baritone (to be able to cover the important bass riff), capo’d up to C, with Sarah on Strat. This studio version features 6 & 12 string acoustics, Tele, Strat, bass, percussion and now ever more of Sarah’s vocals.
